Vedic Education

Importance of Vedic Education in Human Life

The Vedas are considered an ocean of knowledge and the source of all branches of learning. By studying the Vedas and understanding how Vedic practices work, a person’s life can naturally become prosperous and harmonious. A clear example of this is Ayurveda, which originated from the Atharvaveda and is capable of curing even difficult diseases without harmful side effects.

The Vedas are the foundation of ancient science. They contain coded knowledge about the creation, preservation, and dissolution of the universe. Without studying them properly, one cannot truly understand or experience their depth. Therefore, Vedic education—taught systematically and with practical application—is extremely valuable for human progress. This specialised education is offered through the Om Education Society.

Vedic Education

A major part of promoting the Vedas is the establishment of Vedic schools (Vedic Pathashalas). Through this institution, the Prahlad Ashram Chaturved Pathashala carries out this work.

Vedic knowledge is universal. Through the principles of the Vedas, a person becomes intelligent, capable, generous, and efficient. His overall abilities improve, he gains access to prosperity, and he can enjoy a long and meaningful life. This life-transforming teaching is given here.

The curriculum includes the study of all four Vedas—Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and Atharvaveda—along with Upanishads and Puranas. Training is also provided in ritual practices commonly known as “Yajñiki”, which relate to Vedic ceremonies and worship. Nearly 150 students have completed this training so far.

The Vedic school, known as *Prahlad Ashram Chaturved Pathashala*, operates in Akola through the Om Education Society. Complete Vedic training is provided free of cost. All of this work is carried out with the blessings of the Nath tradition.

The traditional Gurukul system is followed. Students between ages 7 and 12 stay in the ashram, following its rules and lifestyle. Typically, admission is taken between ages 6 and 9. During their stay, the ashram provides food, clothing, study materials, medicines, and all necessities—thus offering knowledge, food, clothing, and health support as acts of service.

Along with memorising Vedic texts, students are taught how to apply Vedic principles in daily life. They also learn how to practically perform and understand the methods described in the Vedas, Upanishads, and Puranas.

Non-Traditional Method of Education

Most people are familiar with modern education—schools and colleges. While this system transfers academic knowledge, it often fails to instil qualities such as clarity of purpose, mental stability, courage, confidence, and strong character.

To develop such qualities, the best method is to study and internalise the lives of great personalities—such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj or Mahatma Gandhi. Understanding their character and adopting their thought process helps cultivate their virtues.

P. P. Shri Narendranath Maharaj says: “Through study, practice, and contemplation, one should absorb the qualities of great masters, sages, reformers, and divine personalities. That is the essence of the non-traditional method of education.”

Deities such as Hanuman, Ganesha, Shiva, and Dattatreya are revered today, but none of them claimed themselves to be gods. Their extraordinary capabilities were experienced by society, and thus they were honoured as divine figures. Instead of learning from their exemplary qualities, society placed them on a pedestal and stopped imitating their virtues. Moreover, those who admired or aspired to follow these qualities were often labelled as superstitious.

Through the Om Education Society, guidance is provided on how to study the lives of such elevated personalities, how to imbibe their qualities, and how to cultivate the virtues one desires. This training is given under the direction of P. P. Shri Narendranath Maharaj, using a practical, experiential teaching method.
